Old Masters is unique in that it offers three types of  stains.

Their penetrating stain provides a deep rich look to hard woods such as oak,or cherry.

The wiping stain  provides the control desired for softer woods such as pine or poplar. Yes poplar is a hardwood, but it sure doesn't stain like one.

Both stains can be either brushed or wiped or both to achieve a quality look. 		omdrs

Custom Stain Matching

R & S Paint has over  17 years  of  custom stain matching  experience. To achieve a successful stain match we need three things. First, an  adequate sampling of the wood to be stained,  prepared as it will be after installation. Shinny, glazed wood should be lightly sanded to allow for penetration. Note that smooth wood does not necessarily mean your finish will be. So open  up the wood a little, let the stain penetrate and not roll off. We need a clean sample of what is to be matched ( nails removed) and large enough to capture the flavor of the color. Third we need time. Stain needs to react to the surface it is being applied to, dry so that that the clear finish won't "move" it, and time to make adjustments. Species to species matches take less time than mixed species.  If you desire a deep walnut or deep mahogany look on maple we suggest using walnut or cherry wood not maple.
